Wingspan: 46-56mm

Imago: univoltine - July-October. Similar to the previous species, a frequent visitor to light and sugar, a species of woodland, scrub and gardens. Use the highlighted characteristics of the underwing in the illustrations to separate this species from A. pyramidea.. (See descriptions in Waring et al, 2003, Bachelard et al, 2007 and various others).

Larva: feeds on various trees and shrubs, overwintering as an egg with pupation taking place underground.
