Acronicta tridens ([Denis & Schiffermüller], 1775)

Dark Dagger

Wingspan: 37-44mm

Imago: bivoltine - May to September when it is attracted to light and occasionally sugar. Males can be separated from A. psi through examination of the external characteristics of the genitalia. Recorded from all woodland sites.

Larvae: feed on various broadleaved trees and shrubs before overwintering as pupae spun under bark or in crevices in the trunk of the foodplant.
