Anania fuscalis ([Denis & Schiffermuller], 1775)

Wingspan: 20-28mm

A bivoltine species on the wing inMay and June and again in July and August. Although common throughout much of Europe this is not a species often recorded here possibly because of our distance from wet habitats.

Larvae feed on the fruits and flowers of various plants but mainly Melampyrum spp. and Rhinanthus, the larva hibernates fully grown in a cocoon with pupation taking place on the ground.
