Leucoptera malifoliella (O. Costa, 1836)

Pear Leaf Blister Moth

Wingspan: 7-8mm

A univoltine species on the wing in June and July, the adult has not been recorded at Las Descargues or on the Causse but mines frequently occur on the garden's apple trees and blackthorn.

Eggs are laid on the underside of the leaf and mines can be found from July to September on Crataegus, Prunus, Malus, Pyrus, and Cydone spp. Larvae feed in eliptical or roundish mines with one leaf often holding several. Population explosions can occur on hot summers.
