Acronicta strigosa ([Denis & Schiffermüller], 1775)

Marsh Dagger
La Noctuelle grisette

Wingspan: 24-30mm

A univoltine species on the wing from May to July. The only record for Las Descargues is a singleton taken at the garden mv trap in 2011. A species of hedgerows and mature hawthorn scrub in damp habitats which makes the Las Descargues specimen even more unusual for we are several hundred metres above, and several kilometres from the nearest damp areas.

Larvae feed on Crataegus, Sorbus, Rhamnus and Prunus spinosa, the species overwinter as pupae.
