Cucullia tanaceti ([Denis & Schiffermüller], 1775)

La Cuculie de la tanaisie

Wingspan: 40-48mm

A Mediterranean, bivoltine species on the wing from April to early June and again from July to September, a rare visitor to light. A species of xerophilous habitats, dry, warm slopes and rocky, sandy places. Adults are rarely encountered at all but larvae are more commonly seen on the foodplants which they seldom leave.

Summer generation larva feeds on the flowers and seeds of Achillea, Tanacetum, Santolina, Anthemis whereas the late generation feeds Artemisia. Pupation may last two years.
