Ephestia elutella (Hübner, 1796)

Cacao Moth

Wingspan: 14-20mm

The species is on the wing from June to early November and is an occasional visitor to light but is more often encountered on flowers or in the dark recesses of barns and outhouses.

The larva is polyphagous on various stored materials, for example, in this area, tobacco is a favoured foodplant. The larva overwinters in a cocoon before pupating in spring.
